How to Register to Vote in North Carolina

North Carolina residents can register to vote online, by mail, or in person. The state offers same-day voter registration during early voting but not on Election Day itself.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Be a resident of North Carolina and the county where you are registering for at least 30 days.
  • Be at least 18 years old by Election Day (you can pre-register at 16 or 17, but must be 18 to vote).
  • Not be serving a sentence for a felony conviction (your voting rights are restored upon completion of your sentence).
  • Not be declared mentally incompetent by a court.
