How to Register to Vote in Michigan

Michigan residents can register to vote online, by mail, or in person. The state also allows same-day voter registration, even on Election Day.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Be a resident of Michigan.
  • Be at least 18 years old by Election Day.
  • Not be currently serving a sentence in jail or prison after being convicted of a felony.

    • Register in person at your city or township clerk’s office, the DMV, or during voter registration drives.
    • Same-day voter registration is available at your city or township clerk’s office on Election Day. You must bring proof of residency and identification.

Registration Deadline:

  • The deadline to register online or by mail is 15 days before Election Day.
  • If you miss the deadline, you can still register in person at your city or township clerk’s office up to and including Election Day.
